Champlain Cavaliers > Cavaliers News > Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener

wsoc_daw_wp1The Cavaliers started their 2015 season off on the right foot with a 3-0 win over Dawson last Friday night. Champlain came out strong, generating many scoring chances only to be denied by the Dawson keeper, who kept her team in the game.  Despite outshooting their opponents 12-2 in the 1st half, the Cavaliers went into the break tied 0-0.

The second half started with Dawson pushing back, but the Cavaliers defense held the line, while the offenses continued to press with 5 or 6 close shots on the Dawson goal. The Cavaliers’ hard work finally paid off when in the 60th minute, Alana Mikulis lofted a high ball from well outside the box over the keepers head to score what turned out to be the game winning goal. Emilie Rey added to Champlain’s lead in the 82nd minute when she took a low percentage shot from the right of the goal line and snuck it over the Dawson keeper. Gabrielle Brouillard finished the work by scoring during the 91st minute in extra time to cap Champlain’s offense.

The Cavaliers were definitely dominant in term of possession of the ball and the ladies were able to generate 17 shots at and on the net, 10 of which needed to be handled by the keeper. It was a positive first match for the ladies who are at home again this week as they play host to 2014 CCAA National and RSEQ Provincial Champions Garneau. Kick-off at 19:00 at Seaway Park 3.
