The RSEQ’s has announced this year’s D1 All-Stars and annual award winners for the 2021 season in the D1 soccer league, and the Cavaliers are pleased to congratulate this year’s recipients from the women’s and men’s teams!

The 2021 All-Stars from D1 Soccer are:

  • Mélina Descary (All-Star | Women’s Soccer)
  • Else Lessard (All-Star | Women’s Soccer)
  • Giselle De Leon Mayeu (Academic All-Star | Women’s Soccer)
  • Zakaria Bahous (All-Star | Men’s Soccer)
  • Adam Azzabène (Academic All-Star | Men’s Soccer)

In addition, annual awards for Team Sportsmanship & Fairplay, Player/Coach/Rookie and Student-Athlete of the Year are also awarded, as voted on by the members of the league. The recipients from the Cavaliers for 2021-22 are:

2021 RSEQ Player of the Year | Men’s Soccer – Zakaria Bahous

Congratulations to Zakaria Bahous on being voted as RSEQ Player of the Year in D1 Men’s Soccer for 2021-22. With 10 goals in the 10 game season, Zak not only led on the field with his play, but also off the field as a true leader of the team. His growth over the past few years as a person and player has been evident to anyone who’s worked with him. Bahous is the sixth Cavalier to be selected as RSEQ Player of the Year in Men’s Soccer since 2007.

 

2021 RSEQ Student-Athlete of the Year | Men’s Soccer – Adam Azzabène

The RSEQ Student-Athlete of the Year in D1 Men’s Soccer is Adam Azzabène. This award is presented annually to the student-athlete with the highest R-Score in the league. Adam, who is in his 2nd year of Health Sciences, has been excelling academically – he hasn’t had a grade below a 90% – and on the pitch where he had 5 goals over 9 games this past season. Azzabène is the 4th Cavalier to be named Student-Athlete of the Year since 2007.

 

2021 RSEQ Coach of the Year | Men’s Soccer – Mauro DiCiocco

This is the second time that Coach Mauro DiCiocco has been selected as the RSEQ’s Coach of the Year in Men’s Soccer, and he’s the 2nd Cavaliers coach to be honored as such. He was last voted this distinction by his peers back in 2012. His team went 7-1-2 on the year, and were at the top of the RSEQ and CCAA standings for most of the year. DiCiocco has been the head coach of the Cavaliers program since September 2008 and during his tenure, the Cavaliers have missed the provincials once and the have medaled 7 times, including 2 provincial championships.

 

2021 RSEQ Sportsmanship & Fairplay Award | Men’s Soccer – Champlain Cavaliers 

The Cavaliers have been awarded the 2021 Sportsmanship and Fair-Play Award. This award is based on the team’s conduct throughout the season and a vote by the coaches in the league. This is the 5th time that the Cavaliers have been presented this award since 2006, demonstrating that you can play hard and win, while maintaining the values of sportsmanship and fairness.
