The Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers Cross-Country teams fared well in last weekend’s RSEQ Sud-Ouest Conference Championships, with the ladies taking gold, the men silver and the combined championship banner for the 2nd consecutive year. The race was hosted by the Cavaliers at Parc Michel-Chartrand in Longueuil and saw over 250 college and CEGEP runners competing for spots in this year’s provincials.
The Cavaliers Women’s team entered the race in first place overall, with a total of 87 points and a 12-point lead over 2nd place Vieux-Montréal. Under a brilliant blue sky and unseasonably warm temperatures, the Cavaliers dominated as a team, with 7 runners finishing top-40 in the 98 person field. Cavalier runners were: Samantha Flood (2nd), Veronic Boire (3rd), Mathilde Parent (8th), Catherine Boilard (15th), Audrey Theberge (31st), Gabrielle Senecal (33rd), Sandrine Delisle (36th) and Chloe St-Jacques (71st). The showing of the top four runners scored an amazing 28 points, giving the Cavaliers a total of 105 points for the season and the title.
The Men’s team went into the finals with a 6-point lead over Ahuntsic. The Cavaliers once again had 7 runners finish top-40 on the day. Final placings for the men were: Jasmin Bellerive (12th), Antoine Boulanger (13th), Emile Garon (15th) Christopher Quesnel (17th), Edouard Ducharme (21st), Haroune Charki (34th), Elliot Deslauriers (40th) and Tristan Tat (100th). The Cavaliers scored 57 points on the day, for a season total of 150 points, but came up shy by 1 point to Ahuntsic (149 points) in the overall standings.
With both teams strong finish, the Cavaliers were once again award the Team Combined Championship banner for having the best combined scores for both teams over the season.
The Cavaliers are now preparing for the 2019 Provincial Championships which will be held in Quebec City on October 26.
