Borvsjy_1_KaditaAfter a lackluster 3-2 win over Ahuntsic in their season opener, the Men’s Soccer team showed their true potential as they went up early and never looked back, rolling past Rosemont by a score of 6-0.

The Cavaliers opened the scoring in the 15th minute when team captain Olivier Georges chipped a ball over the defenders to Julio Moncada who played a sharp one-two pass with forward Kadita Tshibangu. Moncada took the give and go and went in alone behind the defense and slipped a shot under the onrushing goalkeeper.

The Cavaliers doubled up at the 30th minute of play when starting rookie midfielder Raphael de Chantal Dumont crossed in a low drive that found Moncada who went in alone on goal and calmly finished with the goal.

In the 40th minute veteran Emmanuel Lucia swirled in a free-kick that  Tshibangu got a foot on only to be parried by the goalkeeper, but Moncada pounced on the rebound and poked away his 3rd goal of the game and 2nd hat-trick in as many games.

The affair was at times rough, as the Cavaliers contended with a very aggressive Rosemont defense that led to players being booked for their actions. The hard play led to a Rosemont player being sent off for his second yellow card and the Cavaliers had a one man advantage for the remainder of the match.

In the second-half, the Cavaliers picked up where they left off and managed to find the back of the net yet again in the 60th minute when Lucia curled in a picture perfect corner-kick that was met above all players by defender Matthew François to make it 4-0.

The home team continued to bring the game to Rosemont generating several scoring opportunities but were unable to finish what seemed to be the easiest of chances on 3 separate break-way opportunities.

However, François took matters into his own control when he made a dashing run down the heart of the defense where he met a long ball at the half-line and continued in alone on goal and rounded the goalkeeper before sliding to poke home the team’s 5th goal of the game in the 70th minute.

Ten minutes later the Cavaliers put the last touch on a solid game when midfielder Christian Ramirez chipped in a ball behind the opposition’s defense that speedy forward Moise Nkurunziza met and coolly chipped over the goalkeeper for his team’s 6th and final goal of the night.

Goalkeeper David Bergeron earned his first shutout of the season with the help from some solid play from his back line. For a second game in a row Julio Moncada scored a hat-trick earning himself the “Player of the Game” Award. Kadita Tshibangu who played a solid all-around game was the recipient of the Jeb Brovsky “Hard-Hat” Award for his hard work.

The Cavaliers continue their early season home-stand with a two game weekend.  John Abbott is visiting the Cavaliers on Friday, September 20th,  9:00 PM kickoff at Seaway Park #3.  Lionel-Groulx visits the Cavaliers on Sunday, September 22nd, 3:00 PM kickoff, also at Seaway Park #3.
