The Champlain Cavaliers responded on Sunday on the road away at Ahuntsic after a poor outing at home last Friday night.

On a wet and cool afternoon, the Cavaliers managed to capitalize on their opportunities to take a commanding lead to the game. In the 25th minute rookie Charles Carrier-Cote whipped in a corner kick that veteran forward Kadita Tshibangu rose up to meet and headed the ball into the top corner over an opposing defender who was stationed at the near goal post.

Soon after in the 32nd minute Emmanuel Lucia curled in a free-kick over the opposition’s back-line to the back post which was met by veteran defender Matthew Francois with a towering header that he directed back down to the turf and gave no chance to Ahuntsic’s goalkeeper.

Just 10 minutes later in the 42nd minute the Cavaliers strung together a series of one-two passing between Julio Moncada Bogran, Mamadi Camara, and Tshibangu. Tshibangu’s attempt on goal was parried away, only to be anticipated by Lucia who easily tucked the ball away for the 3-0 lead.

The Cavaliers dictated the rest of the game  and worked hard to clear away any attempts at their goal. As the rain persisted, so did Ahuntsic as they finally got a break very late in the 90th minute of play and managed to capitalize on a loose ball on top of the Cavaliers 18 yard box to make the final score 3-1.

The Cavaliers put together a solid all-around  performance and remain undefeated after 8 games with 7 wins and 1 tie, putting them atop the RSEQ Men’s Soccer standings and catapulted themselves into a 1st place position in the CCAA National Rankings.

The Player of the Game was Emmanuel Lucia for his goal and one assist. The “Brovsky” Hard Worker of the game award went to Mamadi Camara.
