germanos_1Coach Georges Germanos of the Champlain Cavaliers Women’s Basketball team has informed the college that he is stepping down from his position as head coach in order to focus on his family and professional and business career. Germanos has been with the Cavaliers for twelve years, first as their AA coach, which saw the team capture a regional gold medal and provincial silver medal in 2006, and then guiding the team to the AAA/Division 1 level for the 2007-08 season. Over the years and under the coaching of Germanos, the program improved steadily, culminating with their bronze medal win at the 2015 RSEQ Provincials last spring – a first for the team and program at that level.

“Georges has been a cornerstone to the Women’s Basketball program and the Cavaliers. He’s been the driving force behind the team’s growth and advancement. The Cavaliers and Champlain want to thank Georges for everything he’s done with the program over the past 12 years. He should be proud of what he’s helped build here – he will leave a lasting impression not only on the program, but on the people he’s coached and worked with over the years,” said Vince Amato, Coordinator of Athletics at Champlain College Saint-Lambert. Germanos will remain involved with the program but in a limited capacity that is more in-line with his outside commitments.

The head coaching position will be filled by Michel Métellus, who’s been the Cavaliers’ assistant coach for the past 8 seasons and has been heavily involved in all aspects of the program. “Michel will continue to build on the foundation that Georges helped construct. He’s the right person for what we want to do here at Champlain,” stated Amato.

The Cavaliers start the 2015-16 season on October 16th as they play host to John Abbott College.
